We loved this!

The first step in teaching the written form of numbers is to use the Montessori Sandpaper Numbers. I bought a set here that I like because they show the direction the child should move her finger. This work is similar in concept to the Sandpaper Letters. You lay out the cards and trace each number, saying, “This […]

Montessori: Why Does Accreditation Matter?

While you may be interested in the Montessori philosophy, finding the right school for your child can still be difficult. Just as traditional schools differ from each other, there aren’t two Montessori schools that are exactly alike. However, instead of having a certain curriculum that they follow, Montessori schools are expected to uphold a certain standard – set by the Association Montessori International (AMI) – but, they don’t have to.   Continue reading “Montessori: Why Does Accreditation Matter?”

Ways to Bring Montessori Home

A Montessori classroom is designed to focus on the independence of the child by creating an organized environment with practical materials and a child-lead approach. Bringing these concepts into your home can help to further their self-motivation, confidence, and concentration. Sometimes even small changes can make the biggest differences! How Montessori Education Helps to Develop a Positive Self-Image

The way we think about ourselves develops primarily in the early years – specifically, between the ages of 0 and 6. Every parent wants their child to feel confident and comfortable with themselves – but how can we encourage this positivity in their self-image without simultaneously encouraging arrogance? Similarly to self-motivation, developing the child’s self-esteem is not a skill we can teach or even show them – it’s a characteristic that we have to nurture so it can develop over time. When a child feels good about themselves it often projects into their work, attitude, and relationships – typically creating a sense of happiness and success. Does Montessori Encourage Children to be Self-Motivated?

Children aren’t typically known for their concentration – but rather, their lack thereof. Especially with the increasing advancement of technology, nowadays, we live in a world full of instant gratification. It can be difficult to find people – adults, even – willing to put in the necessary hard work in order to be “successful,” anymore. Not only does this hinder the focus and confidence of our children – but ultimately, it affects the overall success of our society. And, it all begins in the classroom.

The Importance of Montessori Kindergarten

Introducing your child to the Montessori environment is typically done around age 3. So, by age 5 – when it’s time to enter kindergarten – many parents struggle deciding whether to keep them in Montessori versus transitioning them into a traditional educational environment. While the latter may be more cost-effective, the kindergarten year is one of the most pivotal moments in Montessori education for reasons that range from familiarity of environment to the activities themselves.
