You may be wondering; “why Montessori teaching over traditional structure?” Well, there isn’t any one answer. However, there are several benefits to enrolling your child in a Montessori based school versus a traditional school. Keep in mind, this is not to say that anything is necessarily “wrong” with traditional schooling – we just feel that using the Montessori theory, a child is given the opportunity time and time again to reach their full potential easier.
- Learning is Child-Centered
Montessori focuses on the child learning at their own pace, accommodating children who are able to learn quickly and working with children who need a little extra guidance. What does this mean, exactly? In a Montessori classroom you will find hundreds of objects and activities for your child to play with. Your child is encouraged to learn about these activities and objects at their own pace, which has proven to create a comfortable learning environment removing stress and pressure (yes, even at a young age).
- Highly Individualized to Each Student
Along the same lines, Montessori naturally encourages children to advance their learning because it is self-paced. Children want to learn and are excited about learning, we let them learn as they please. If your child tends to accelerate and learn quickly, they are able to keep accelerating and vice versa – if your child needs extra help, there are teachers that are able to help guide your child in the right direction.
- Focused on Hands-On Learning
This is our favorite at Taylor Made School of Austin. Why? We feel that this is one of the greatest benefits of alternative learning. Children are encouraged to learn using all of their senses and abilities, not just by listening and reading. In addition to that, each child is able to concentrate on tasks without interruption and learn valuable life lessons from using a hands-on approach.
